BOLT-IN. NO DRILLING. CHECKED PROPERLY.

Every KAP bracket mounts using your vehicle's factory seat mounting points. No drilling, no cutting, no modification. It is designed for straightforward installation using standard hand tools.

The seat fasteners you will be working with are safety-critical. Follow your vehicle manufacturer's service procedure for them, follow the steps below and any model-specific notes on your product page, and have a qualified automotive technician check your work before you rely on it.

Your product page comes first. Some vehicles have model-specific installation notes. Where they exist, they override this general guide and the video.

BEFORE YOU START

Confirm the bracket matches your vehicle. Check the label against your year, model, trim and the seat side you are fitting. If anything does not match, stop and contact us. Do not force a bracket to fit.

Check your product page for model-specific notes.

Get the vehicle manufacturer's seat fastener procedure. It is in the service manual or available from a dealer. It may require replacement bolts, threadlocker, a tightening sequence and a torque figure. KAP does not publish seat-bolt torque values because the vehicle manufacturer sets them.

Do not disturb wiring. Many seats carry airbag, seat-belt tensioner and occupancy sensor wiring underneath. Do not disconnect, pinch, stretch or obstruct it. If the vehicle procedure requires battery disconnection, follow it.

WHAT IS IN THE BOX

  • 1 × KAP bracket, laser-cut steel, powder-coated black
  • 2 × M5 bolts, 2 × nylock nuts and washers, for attaching your extinguisher cage to the bracket
  • Safety sheet

The bracket is secured to the vehicle using the seat fasteners specified in your vehicle manufacturer's procedure.

THE INSTALL, IN GENERAL

1.

Park on level ground, engine off, key out. Slide the seat to the position that gives access to the mounting bolts.

2.

Remove the seat bolt covers if fitted.

3.

Loosen or remove the relevant seat bolts following the vehicle manufacturer's procedure. Usually the two front bolts; some vehicles need the rear bolts loosened so the seat can tilt.

4.

Attach the extinguisher cage to the bracket using the KAP-supplied M5 bolts, washers and nylock nuts unless your product page states otherwise. Tighten securely. Do not substitute damaged or mismatched hardware. Position the cage so the release is within reach of the seat it faces.

5.

Position the bracket over the seat mounting points. The slots line up with the factory bolt holes.

6.

Refit the seat fasteners through the bracket, per the manufacturer's procedure.
Start bolts by hand; if one does not turn freely, back it out and start again.

7.

Tighten to the manufacturer's specification.

8.

Refit the bolt covers if they still fit.

CHECK BEFORE YOU DRIVE

  • Seat adjustment. Seat travel depends on the extinguisher fitted; a large extinguisher can potentially limit seat movement. After installation, confirm the seat adjusts and locks securely. If seat travel is unexpectedly reduced, the seat binds or catches, or the seat does not lock securely, do not drive.
  • Seat belt. Buckle, release, pull fully out and let retract. The bracket, cage and extinguisher must not contact the buckle, stalk or belt path.
  • Wiring and airbags. Confirm nothing under the seat is pinched, stretched or obstructed.
  • Warning lights. Start the vehicle. If a new airbag or seat-belt warning light appears, stop and have the vehicle checked before driving.
  • Security. The bracket and cage should not move. Follow the vehicle manufacturer's procedure for future inspection and tightening of seat fasteners.
  • Release. From the seated position, practice removing the extinguisher from its cage. If anything does not fit, line up or move freely, stop. Do not force it. Contact us or a qualified technician.

GET IT CHECKED

We recommend having your installation checked by a qualified automotive technician, in particular the seat fasteners and the seat-belt and airbag clearances. It is a short job for a workshop and the right call for a fastener that holds your seat to the car.

YOUR EXTINGUISHER

KAP brackets are designed for metal-strapped, cage-style vehicle extinguisher mounts only. The cage must be suitable for vehicle use, correctly sized for your extinguisher, in good condition and installed per its manufacturer's instructions. Plastic clip mounts, adhesive mounts and strap-only mounts are not suitable.

The bracket suits extinguishers in the size range on your product page. See our Installation.

Never remove or use the extinguisher while the vehicle is moving. Stop safely and secure the vehicle first.

DO NOT

  • Drill, cut, bend, grind, weld or paint the bracket
  • Fit the bracket to a seat, side or vehicle it was not designed for
  • Fit the bracket if the seat will not adjust and lock normally, or if it contacts any seat-belt or airbag component
  • Use a plastic, adhesive or strap-only extinguisher mount
  • Drive with a loose or partly fitted bracket

INSTALL VIDEO

WATCH IT DONE, THEN CHECK YOUR PRODUCT PAGE

Our general install video shows a typical KAP bracket installation start to finish: preparing the seat, attaching the cage, positioning the bracket, refitting the seat fasteners and the checks to do before you drive.

BEFORE YOU PRESS PLAY

  • Read the Installation page and the safety sheet in your box.
  • Check your product page for model-specific notes. Where they exist, they override this video and the general guide.
  • Have your vehicle manufacturer's seat fastener procedure to hand. The video does not show torque values or fastener requirements for your vehicle; the manufacturer's procedure does.

NEED MORE?

Every bracket ships with a safety sheet, and the Installation page covers the general steps in writing. If you are stuck, send your order number and a photo of where you are up to. Contact us and we will talk you through it.

FILMED YOUR OWN?

If you filmed your install and would let us share it, send us the link. Customer videos are published only after KAP technical review.

EXTINGUISHER COMPATIBILITY

THE BRACKET IS ONE HALF. HERE IS THE OTHER.

KAP brackets are sold without an extinguisher at launch. KAP extinguishers are coming; join the list below. Until then, this guide tells you what to look for.

THE ONE RULE

Your extinguisher must be fitted to a metal-strapped, cage-style vehicle mount that is suitable for vehicle use, correctly sized for the cylinder, in good condition and installed per its manufacturer's instructions.

A KAP bracket does not hold the extinguisher directly. It holds the extinguisher's own metal cage, which attaches to the bracket with the supplied M5 hardware. Plastic clip mounts, adhesive mounts and strap-only mounts are not suitable. If your extinguisher came with a plastic clip, buy a metal vehicle cage for it. Most extinguisher manufacturers sell one.

SIZE

KAP brackets are designed around the 2.5 lb class, the size commonly used in vehicles in the US.

What fleets need, and what KAP does
SpecRange the bracket accepts
Cylinder diameterup to approx. 3.2 in
Cylinder height with headapprox. 12 in

Larger 5 lb units are generally too tall for under-seat mounting and are not recommended.

AGENT

The bracket does not care what is inside the cylinder. Choose an agent suited to your use, and if you race, check your sanctioning body's rules on minimum size and acceptable agents.

CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY

1.

Metal cage with strap and latch, suitable for vehicle use

2.

Cylinder diameter and height within the range above

3.

Cage bolt holes match the bracket slot pattern

4.

Extinguisher in date and gauge in the green

Unsure? Send us the make and model of your extinguisher and a photo of its mount.

KAP EXTINGUISHERS

A fire extinguisher bracket holds an extinguisher. It does not prevent, detect or suppress fire. Inspect and maintain your extinguisher as its manufacturer and any applicable rules require.
