AUSTRALIAN-BORN. AMERICAN-MADE. BUILT TO HOLD WHEN IT MATTERS.
IT STARTED ON A RACETRACK
Perth, Western Australia, 2014. To take a car out on track, Russell Kap needed a fire extinguisher mounted within arm's reach of the driver's seat. Every option on the market meant one of two things: drill holes in the car, or trust a universal bracket that "kind of" fit and rattled like it knew it.
Neither was acceptable on a car he cared about. So he measured the seat mounts, drew a bracket that mounted on the factory bolt points, laser-cut it from steel and powder-coated it. It fitted perfectly, held solid, and came out again when the car was sold.
Other drivers at the track asked for one. Then their friends with different cars asked. Twelve years and more than 45,000 brackets later, that is still how KAP works: one vehicle, one bracket, designed for that vehicle and nothing else.
WHY VEHICLE-SPECIFIC
A universal bracket solves the seller's problem. It lets one product sit on a shelf for a thousand cars. What it usually means for the driver is drilling, awkward placement and poor access.
KAP takes the opposite approach. Every bracket starts with the actual vehicle. Russell measures the seat base, the bolt pattern, the rail travel, the belt path and the floor pan, then designs a bracket that sits flat, clears everything, keeps the extinguisher out of the way and within reach, and mounts to the factory points. No drilling. No guesswork. No "that'll probably hold."
More than 400 makes and models so far. Sedans, sports cars, trucks, SUVs, vans and a few things that have no business being on a racetrack.
PROVEN WHERE IT COUNTS
KAP brackets were developed to Australian motorsport specifications, where a hand-held extinguisher must be secured in a metal bracket and come out without tools. They have been fitted to track cars, rally cars, outback tourers, mine-site fleets, work vans and daily drivers, and shipped to more than 20 countries.
4.9 out of 5 from more than 1,600 verified KAP customer reviews. In 12 years of operations, KAP has not received a report of a bracket-related safety incident.
NOW MADE IN IDAHO
American drivers found KAP before KAP found America. For years, orders came in from the US with no marketing, no US stock and a long wait across the Pacific.
So rather than ship brackets from Australia, we brought the manufacturing to where the vehicles are. KAP brackets for the US market are cut, formed, powder-coated and packed in Boise, Idaho, by Lost River Fabrication, a family-owned fabrication shop that works the same way Russell does: measure it properly, build it properly, stand behind it.
Same designs. Same standards. Made in the USA, and no ocean between you and your bracket.
WHO WE ARE
Russell Kap, founder. Designs and fitment-checks every new bracket design.
Colin McGrath, US manufacturing. Runs Lost River Fabrication in Boise, where every US bracket is made and shipped.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
A fire extinguisher only helps if it is still where you mounted it. Safety gear should be secure before it is needed, accessible when it is, and should not require you to put holes in a car you love to get there.
That is the whole company. One job, done properly.
MADE IN IDAHO
BORN IN AUSTRALIA. BUILT IN AMERICA.
Every KAP bracket sold on this site is made in Boise, Idaho. Not assembled here. Not finished here. Made here, from American steel, start to finish.
WHY WE DID NOT JUST SHIP FROM AUSTRALIA
For years we could have. US customers were ordering from our Australian store and waiting weeks for a bracket to cross the Pacific. It worked, but it was slow, expensive and meant a vehicle-specific product was being made 9,000 miles from the vehicles. When we decided to serve the US properly, the answer was obvious. Make the brackets where the trucks are.
HOW A US BRACKET IS MADE
Design. Every bracket starts as a CAD drawing developed by Russell Kap against the actual vehicle. The same file drives the laser in Australia and in Idaho, so a US bracket is identical to the one proving itself on Australian roads for twelve years.
Steel. US-sourced 11-gauge steel plate, cut on a fibre laser in Boise.
Forming. Folded on a CNC press brake to the angles in the drawing.
Finish. Powder-coated black for corrosion resistance and a factory look.
Hardware. Packed with M5 bolts, nylock nuts and washers for the extinguisher cage, and the KAP safety sheet.
Quality. Each production run is checked against the approved drawing before it ships.
THE PEOPLE
KAP's US manufacturing partner is Lost River Fabrication, a family-owned metal fabrication shop in Boise run by Colin McGrath. They cut, form, coat and ship every bracket, and hold the same standard Russell has held since the first one: if it is not right, it does not go out.
WHAT "MADE IN USA" MEANS HERE
US steel, cut in the US, formed in the US, powder-coated in the US, packed in the US. We hold supplier documentation for each step. Where we say made in the USA, we can show it.
WHAT DOES NOT CHANGE
Same designs. Same fitment. Same metric M5 hardware, because that is what the drawings specify and what extinguisher cages are built for. Same lifetime warranty. Same person checking the drawings. The only difference is the zip code on the box and how quickly it reaches you.
